Obesity can have a huge impact on life expectancy. Upon observing records of over 300,000 adults spanning 20 years, a medical research suggests that waist-to- height ratio (WHR) or waistline is a stronger predictor of mortality risk than body mass index (BMI).

The study shows that a heavily obese 30-year- old man could lose up to 20.2 years of his life while a woman with similar WHR is likely to lose 10.6 years.
